Fences

Fence repairs and replacements are usually the responsibility of the HOA. If your fence is in need of repair, please email help@caminodelprado.org.

Members must maintain their plants and trees within their patio areas.  If a plant’s roots or limbs damage a fence, the member is financially responsible to repair the damage.  If a member moves into a home and has a tree in the patio area, that new member inherits the responsibility for any damage to the common area and their home.

Some members want to extend their fences higher. The Board will generally approve adding a lattice to the top of the fence if it meets these conditions:

  1. An Architectural Change Request Form must be submitted: https://caminodelprado.org/forms-docs/
  2. The fence lattice needs to use redwood (same material as the fence) and be of similar design as existing lattices.
  3. The Board will not approve the addition of plastic plants which are visible from outside (e.g. fake ivy). Living plants are also discouraged as they can damage the fence.
  4. The lattice must not require modification on current fence.
  5. Cost and maintenance of lattice is the responsibility of the owner.
  6. In the future if the fence repair requires removal of lattice, it is the responsibility of the owner to bring down the lattice and reset it up again.
  7. The height of the lattice on the road facing fence should not be more than a foot, the lattice on a fence shared with a neighbor can be up to 2 feet high though.
  8. The design/height of a lattice on a fence shared with a neighbor fence must be approved by your neighbor as well. Please get your neighbor’s approval in writing.
  9. While your current neighbor may be okay with the trellis, future neighbors may not and you will have to deal with those situations. (For example, a new neighbor may not be satisfied with the look and feel of that trellis. So maintenance of the neighbor trellis will be conditioned by acceptance of current and future neighbors.)
